What is Ginology?

Over billions of years, the earth’s movements have created the perfect elements for our gins. The UK’s Peak District air is fresh and rejuvenating. The hills and valleys are a mosaic of vitally important habitats. The effervescent spring waters filter through layers of limestone, sand and shale. The micro-climate and geology create the unique eco-systems that help the fruits and flowers in our gins thrive. This is what we call GINOLOGY, this is what you can taste in every drop of our small batch, hand-crafted GIN.

THE GEOLOGY

The Peak District in the UK was once a coral reef in a subterranean sea surrounded by underwater volcanoes. The Shivering Mountain (Mam Tor) is famed for its frequent landslides caused by the unstable layers of sand and shale deep within. Mining for copper, lead and Blue John drew people to the area, where even gold and silver were extracted. Hearts, minds and the landscape have been moved and shaped for centuries by the Peak District‘s unique geology.

A MOUNTAIN ON THE MOVE

A landslide that began roughly 4000 years ago is still moving today. It’s left a wide scare at the top of the mountain where it’s exposed the stone layers underneath. The flow of the debris isn’t a threat to anyone, although some small farm buildings lying in the flow’s path may soon be engulfed.
